Behavioral Assessment Tool for K-12
In 2005, with the best assessment science behind it, Edumetrisis, LLC invented the industry’s leading behavior and psychological screening tool - BIMAS. In 2016, they partnered with Woodridge to help redesign a difficult to use interface and rewrite the software with ease of use, security and scalability in mind.
The Opportunity
K-12 Schools around the country are realizing that testing for math and reading is not enough – students often also need psychological help and support.
Standardized behavioral screening is the most efficient way to identify those that might need help. The Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System 2 (BIMAS-2™) is a measure of social, emotional, and behavioral functioning in children and adolescents.
The BIMAS-2 is used as a screening tool for behavior concerns and offers a mechanism to build behavior support plans and monitor the effectiveness of interventions.

A Broken User Experience
The Woodridge UX team underwent a bottom-up exploration of how the original software was conceived. A detailed user analysis was the foundation for rethinking how users interacted with the software.
It was discovered that teachers were required to complete a 30 item questionnaire, for each of their students. For a small class of 20, each teacher would need to answer 600 questions, which was too much work and resulted in less than 65% compliance.
School Administrators faced a similar challenge when it came to setting up their district and managing teachers. Generating reports from the data was a cumbersome effort as well, often taking 20-30 steps to complete.
The team at Woodridge reduced most tasks to 1-2 clicks, making BIMAS-2 much easier to use and navigate.
Security
Security was another high priority that had been neglected in the original BIMAS. The Woodridge development team incorporated the latest security and encryption protocols, protecting BIMAS-2’s sensitive data.

Results
Woodridge designed and implemented an application that took something very complex and made the process simple.
BIMAS-2 is now used to assess and monitor students in several large districts across the country including Boston Public Schools and Hawaii Public Schools.
New customers can now be rolled out and set up in less than a day, whereas before it would take a week to onboard a new school district.
Schools that were experiencing less than 65% assessment rates using the original BIMAS are now experiencing assessment rates of 95%.
Finally, teachers can now quickly assess their students and give them the help they need sooner. Individual assessments are completed in seconds instead of minutes.
The new BIMAS-2 is not only based on the best assessment science, but it now also has the best user experience of any behavior assessment tool on the market.

About the Client
The Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System (BIMAS-2™) is a measure of social, emotional and behavioral functioning in children and adolescents ages 5 to 18 years. The BIMAS Standard Form includes 34 change-sensitive items that are used for universal screening of behavior concerns and for assessing and monitoring the progress of behavior and mental health related interventions. The BIMAS items were developed based on over 10 years of research and a scientific model for selecting items that are sensitive to change called Intervention Item Selection Rules (IISRs; Meier, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2004). It is the only commercially available measure comprised of items with demonstrated change sensitivity based on the IISRs model and the only measure build from this perspective in mind from the grounds up.
